Lumenition Optronic with Lucas Sports Coil?

Hi,
Thought I might have a faulty coil so ordered a Lucas Sports Coil.
I have a Lumenition Optronic Ignition in my +2.
Can/should I use the Lucas Sports Coil (DLB 105) with it?
I have read through a lot of older posts on the subject....
Some say you can use the coil with this ignition, others say you can't....
Anyone got a definitive answer?
Will I fry my electronic ignition?
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Hi Peter
I am running the lumenition with the lucas sports coil, but sadly have not done any mileage.
From what I understand from Lumenition is that you have to run a ballasted ignition system with the lumenition. So you have to run a separate ballast resistor or a ballasted coil, I was told by the supplier that the sports coil is ballasted so you should have no problems.
Anyone confirm or refute this opinion?

My +2 has had a lumentation anda high output non ballasted 12V coil (like the lucas sport) for many years with no problem (apart from water getting into the coil and coroding the cap away because in the standard position water drains onto it).

I have run my lumention with and without a ballasted coil without any problems. As far as I remember there is a minimum resistance stated for the coil in the lumention instructions and you should be able to check that the coil is above this figure
