For those of you in the UK that may need some form of lifting tackle, the link below may be of interest:

This is one of Aldi's Thusday specials and they sell very quickly - so if you're interested, my advice is to get there before 9.30.

thanks for the heads up..
Was at the door of our local Aldi at 9am this morning. Left with winch and pillar drill.
Asked how many units they had, answer 5. So worth getting in there early.
Luckily our Aldi is deep in student land hence no-one is interested in buying winches and drills!

I would like to add my thanks to Brian for this info as well. I arrived at my local Aldi door this morning and had to make way for a guy with two hoists in his shopping trolley. However they had a stack of them at the back of the store so I was not dissapointed. Just a case of fitting it up now !!!

Hi Chris
I did not know there was one in Dagenham, I just looked up on the store locator and it says it is next to Goresbook Leisure Centre.
I grew up in Greenfield GDNS many years ago, can you drive your car around Becontree? Last time I went there there was speed cushion everywhere.
Great to hear of another car in Essex (just).

Aldi is a good source of bargains and well worth a regular look for Thursday & Sunday offers.
My local store had plenty, but in the past I have been disapointed by not getting there before 10 am on a Thursday.
On reflection, I guess not many people have the need for a hoist.

That probably includes most of us but we will buy one anyway just in case. Mind you, will make getting the welder in and out of the loft alot easier, not that I have much need for it on an Elan but every so often something of the steel nature seems to break and needs welding from seat frames to handbrake brackets

Greg,
It's really a food chain here are well (pile em high and sell em cheap like Lidl) but they also have special offers twice a week. These tend to be themed (hence the motoring theme at the moment) and they can be very cheap.

Greg,
They do sell automotive items on occassion. I have purchased a mechanics seat from them. At one point, they were selling creepers. I realize it's not automotive, but last year I picked up a Sony DVD player for $50. I make it a habit to check their Sunday flyer.

Well they didnt have any engine lifts in my local one when I went in today but they did have a nice set of ratchet spanners, just a shame the set doesn't conclude an 11mm one!
the set is 8-10-13-17 so quite useful really, think they are about 8-99

I saw those ratchet ring/open end spanners and my heart sank. I paid 49 USD (?26) last week for a set in Daytona but then remembered they were A/F with the ring ends jointed.
Phew!!!!!!

Have had that on a few occasions. I figured with this purchase though, even if I splash out on an 11mm one seperately I should still be quids in.

Andy,
I went back today to see about the spanners, ?11.99 for five, 6, 10, 13, 14, 17mm but still worth it, they seem good quality, good finish and smooth ratchets. Useful for me building a Zetec (lots of metric parts).
My local store also had a quite a few engine hoists. If anyone really wants one, send me a pm and we'll see what we can arrange,
