Wellseal

PostPost by: JKING » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:41 pm

Brian Buckland mentions the use of "Wellseal" quite often such as on the cork gasket at the top of the timing chest.
I assume this is not an RTV product. Can someone tell me what it is? Is there a US equivalent? A Permatex product perhaps?

Wellseal is available from several US suppliers. Try Ray at R.D. Enterprises (rdent.com) or Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies (pegasusautoracing.com). Both a great suppliers and list Wellseal 100 ml tubes at about $22 on their web sites.

Please wear gloves when applying, it's pretty nasty stuff.

Hello,

A locally available equivalent to Wellseal is Permatex Aviation Form-A Gasket Sealant Liquid.
NAPA carries it under the NAPA Permatex label and part number 765-1210.

Enjoy,

Thanks guys.
And thanks for the comparison, Don. I've used Permatex for decades and I would like to use it here as it's more readily available. I was thinking the Permatex #2 might be equivalent to the Wellseal. It's thicker than the Aviation sealant but doesn't harden like #1 does.

If you want a sealant that doesn't harden and you can remove and replace over and over again I vote for permatex Hylomar. Clearish blue and postively does not harden.
