Thanks everyone, that is the old girl started. Took the precaution of turning her over for about thirty seconds on the starter with the plugs out and it whirred away quite happily. Then did the same thing with plugs in, mainly because i forgot to connect the HT leads. Then with them connected she purred into life after a few false starts and once warmed up happily idled away at 1250rpm. I know that is a bit fast for tick over but the timing and mixture need resetting which I intend to do over the weekend, once I have managed to get the last of the air out of the brakes to get a properly firm pedal.
