Spark plug question

Hi again!

Any opinions on spark plugs?

I usually use the standard NGK BP6ES plugs and have no complaints.

Recently I bought what I thought was a large box of:

BP6ES plugs

from my local motor factor only to discover that they were:

BP7ES plugs.

Now, my understanding is that the BP7ES is a 'hotter' plug.

Any opinions on whether they'll perform as well as the standard 'colder'
plug?

Hi Peter !

7's work OK unless you are always stuck in traffic, as they do foul & take an age to clean up. For that reason I changed FROM 7's TO 6's last year & my general running is much improved.

I would keep them as an emergency spare.

I'm pretty sure with NGK plugs, the higher the number the cooler the plug.
Can anyone confirm?

I changed from 6's to 5's for improved running.

My understanding is that the lower the number the hotter the plug. I run BP7ES's They do tend to foul on occasions but I feel that the engine is happier on 7's rather than 6's.

Nothing concrete just a feel.

NGK numbers work the other way round to Champion see

after many years of using champion plugs I have switched to nkg because one of the little screw tops fell off the plug and went to live in the number 2 plug hole ----had I not heard the click and started the car with the new plugs in place and the offending bit in the piston hole it would have been very expensive ---ed

Got that right, my #4 inhaled a nut that was supposed be holding the stack on the back Weber. Sounded like a goober thrasher workin' rock! Got all the carbon off the piston, though.
