I have to fit a new nearside engine mounting at the weekend. Any tips?

I did mine a few years ago and it was pretty straight forward which is good 'cuz I'm not a real mechanic. I drove the car up on ramps and then used a small rolling hydraulic jack to move the engine up or down and take the load. I did 90% of the work from underneath the car. Make sure you put the mount on the proper side of the frame mount.
Also, if I recall properly, there are some threads on this site concerning slight variations in the mounts, make sure your new one is identical to the old one.

Pretty straightforward job. As the previous comment said, a jack under the sump (with suitable peice of wood) to take the weight, & undo the bolts. Assemble the new one loose so that all bolts are properly engaged in the block & threads don't cross. Careful that bits don't fall down the side of the chassis member, never to be seen again!
It can be a fiddle, jiggling it about to get all the spacers in place & bolts engaged. Should take about an hour..... if all goes well.

Why only fitting one mount??? they don`t cost the earth .One new one may knock out the other .

When fitting engine mounts I drill the holes that mount to the chassis a couple of millimetre larger than they are supplied with. This makes lining the holes up with the chassis holes and getting the bolts through so much easier.

Hi John, if I used emoticons I'd put the big smiley one right,,, here.... Do you own any German cars? I gotta say with Lotuses if it ain't broke don't fix it. Why change two mounts if only one is broken? (insert small round yellow devil image here) Eric
