Camshaft question?

PostPost by: Petter Hval » Fri Nov 24, 2006 8:43 pm

Hi.
Anyone out there with D. Elgin Cams experience?
I`m about to build a new 1700cc engine - 711M block, steel bottom,
ported head with 1,625 - 1,4" valves. The Elgin Cams # 725-10
have an expressed period of 290 dgr. and .440" lift.
I`m wonderig if these cams would be appropriate for the engine.
Any comments?
Regards.
Petter

I have not used those particular cams but I have a very similar cam from John McCoy in my competition Elan. John worked with Elgin in developing the profiles for his cams. It should work great in your engine giving good low down torque, a very broad power band and peak power around 7000 to 7500 rpm. If the rest of the development work has been done well, especially the porting and you have a good exhaust then you should have around 170 to 180 hp.

I am currently collecting parts (very slowly) for building a new engine for my road plus 2 to the same sort of specification as your engine.
