Coolant Change For Elan Sprint

PostPost by: andrewdmoore » Fri Mar 11, 2005 12:18 pm

It's about time for a coolant change - the first since I've owned the car. Is it necessary to remove the plug on the side of the engine block as well as the one on the rad or can I just get away with shoving the car onto some ramps to let gravity take its course with the rad plug slackened.

If you do recommend removing this plug - I'd love to see the shape of tool required to do it!

Advice as always appreciated, Andrew

Andrew, assuming you will flush the system then no need to remove the block drain plug. Of course if you're flushing it you really need to remove both hose ends from the rad (allows flushing the rad & the block/head) and you ought to take out the thermostat to flush the block and..... since you're there, I'd put in a new thermostat before refilling. Refilling takes a bit of patience and you're best to park it nose up (on a slope or front on ramps) to get it full up to the top hose. Elliott.
