One Way Valve

Hi -
Finally diagnosed the problem with my lights... I'm after a new one-way valve - the "direct into the manifold" type...

Paul Matty does a kit to fit another type but it's rather expensive (40 odd quid) and there's no way I'm paying that when I just need a new valve!

Anyone either got one I can buy, or know where I can get hold of one?

Hello

I bought a non return valve as used in pneumatic circuit. The one I bought is from Festo type H-QS-8 (ref number 153464). It costed me 15.70 Euro + VAT back in 2003.
It is working perfectely well
You just cut the tubing somewhere and clip the valve in the circuit.

Try Sue Miller 01728 603307 she often has hard to find bits. Failing that rswww.com stock valves etc.

Christopher Neil have them in stock. I can't remember what I paid for mine last year but it didn't break the bank. I am sure I saw something on this forum a while ago about reconditioning them, it might be worth a look.

There are also non Lotus valves available that could work in this application. My 1978 US spec Ferrari 308 uses a plastic in line valve that works very well to seal a spherical vacuum tank which provides vacuum muscle to operate a flap on the air filter assembly and also actuates an air injection valve. This piece is inexpensive and works well. There are surely others.

Is that Ferrari inexpensive or inexpensive inexpensive ? Any substitute check valve you use you need to check its seal does not dissolve in a fuel environment some of the cheap ones you can get do. The valve I use on my plus 2 was a cheap plastic bodied valve that cost about $1, 25 years ago. The rubber disk that formed the seal failed in about a week. I replaced it with a polished 1 cent coin which happened to be the same diameter. Its been that way ever since and it holds vacuum and the headlights down for six months plus.

You got me on that one. I guess its Ferrari inexpensive.

The Ferrari part number is 111197. It is a metal-bodied check valve with male barbs, suitable for 1/4-inch id vacuum tubing. In its native application, it is mounted horizontally. Two of these valves are fitted to US spec carb 308 GTS's and GTB's. Single valves are fitted to Australian and Japanese GT-4's and probably other emission equipped 308's. It's made to tolerate gas vapors, as it gets its vacuum from the intake manifold, just like the Elan does.

I checked the Ferrari UK (official distributor for all Ferrari parts for cars over 10-years old) web site and they list it for 38 BP, but they don't have any. I then checked Eurospares, they also list them for 38 BP and probably have them. I then checked Dennis McCann's web site and he shows them as being in stock for $68. These are the usual suspects for quick on line checks, but seldom have the best prices.

So, it?s not inexpensive new. Best thing to do is to find someone with one of these cars, who is removing the emissions equipment from their car, and get one used. I see this type of equipment come up for sale on ebay from time to time but I also see Lotus check valves come up for sale too.

Paul Matty, DB, and others can probably supply the Lotus part. I think I've seen two versions, one which apparently screws into the intake manifold and an in line version. I'm not sure which is correct, but I believe my S2 Elan is fitted with the inline version. I have marginal vacuum on my Elan and am not sure if it is the valve leaking, another fitting, a vacuum hose, or the vacuum tank/frame itself. When I fit a new frame to my Elan, I may opt for a separate vacuum tank to prevent corrosion to the frame.
