ignition timing

 after reading about the timing on new distributors i adjusted mine to 6 degreesbtdc static.what a difference.this solved many problems i had such as the drivability over low speeds.the car runs as smooth as a sewing machine with good performance.the car is a +2s130/4 .the new dizzy was a 43d4.when i ran it a 10 or 12 degrees btdc with all the fiddling in the world it would'nt run smooth.obviously the advance must be different to the original one which had no advance below 1000rpm.the new 43d4 must advance much sooner which is why the difference is required.has anyone else had this problem?regards mike.

Mike,
Don't get us started! I have my timing set the same as you on a big valve engine, but would recommend you check the maximum advance as well as the static. The best setting for static timing will depend on the advance curve on distributor you have, and they vary. You will find an extensive thread on the subject under "things in common" last year....

good luck!
