No talk (or pics) of the upper gate, though it looks like near the back. Must be 2 spot welds holding it?
Wonder if there are other fixings, as the 2 spot welds are not overly strong. Then again, if its just some oil slosh?

as mbell said , I need a hole for the dip stick !
i tried to fill the sump with correct oil capacity but I 've got a problem again
here is my sump filled with 3.5L of petrol . when I compare with elanman999 sump , my modification don't increase enouth the capacitiy of the sump as I want because the level looks the same but with 3.5L instead of 4L
when I fit the dip stick with timing casing, the level indicate more than full !
dip stick tube look at the correct height regarding repair manual, but are there many models of dip stick ?
mine is a 105E
my sump filled with 3.5L of petrol:
elanman999 sump with 4L : the level look quite the same:
full dipstick level is 15 mm under real 3.5 L level:
dip stick tube is 105mm to the sump seal as it is said in the repair manual: (is it the correct method to control?)
I report full and empty dipsticks levels on his back for the pics , the full one is 60mm from the sump bottom , empty one is 40mm from bottom, my level with 3.5 L is approximately 75mm
my dip stick ref :

The disptick tube length was increased on so-called Mk2 engines from 105mm to 115mm..this is not shown in all editions of the Workshop Manual. Might this be what your problem is ?

As far as I can tell this change was about increasing the oil level to reduce the loss of oil pressure in RH turns with the change to a right side rather than centre pickup.
I use 110mm for the dip stick tube height ...half way between the two specifications on my competition engine with a centre pickup and swinging gate side baffles. I find it blows oil into catch tank until its about 5 mm below the full mark. This appears to occur under hard braking on the track when the oil surges to the front and the chain picks up the oil and carries it to the breather in the front of the cam cover. One day I will trial a swinging gate baffle in front of the pick up also to reduce the oil surge under braking
With all the mods you have done to the sump I would not worry to much about the actual capacity and anywhere between 105 and 115 mm tube height appears fine by Lotus as long as your not losing pressure in the bends or blowing out to much!
cheers

It seems you have about the same setup as me. I find 3l of oil gets me about half way between empty and full.
I've been meaning to investigate it but not having and starvation issues. Not that I drive the corners that works trigger it.
