Both dizzy caps and rotor arms have been poor for many years. A common failure mode is to become conductive when hot, so you are left stranded by the side of the road until it cools down. I went through a phase of 'distributor cap of the week' before I came across the Distributor Doctor. I always buy my ignition components from him, and have had no further problems.
