N American equivalent to the RYCO Z62

Baldwin B243
CARQUEST 85516
Donaldson P550227
Fleetguard LF42504
Fleetguard LF655
HASTINGS LF134
Sakura C5901

Hastings is good too.

So, I have ordered one of each, not a Sakura or CarQuest.

Maybe they are different. Thank You 2Cams70

Now after seeing a Baldwin B243 ‘edit at 310g’, it is just the same it seems as the Baldwin 178.
As far as I can tell, the RYCO Z62 is listed as Ford specific for some reason. Maybe 2Cams70 or some other mate’s down under can speculate (or better) the differences if one of the above filters listed is also available in Australia?

As all the filters I have listed above are also suitable on Japanese, American, and ETC.
The RYCO Z62 Is only Cortina Escort 68-74 1100-1600cc?

That Sakura C5901 filter looks suspiciously like the Ryco Z62. It too is listed as Ford Kent engine specific only. It may be the case that the Ryco Z62 is the Sakura C5901 rebranded. I think this is more likely than the other way around. Ford Kent family also includes the Lotus Twin Cam of course. They are all derivatives of the mighty 105E Anglia engine.

Note: We should all bow at least twice in the presence of a Ford Anglia 105E engine.

Agreed 2 times about the filters, also the Anglia. My first car, wish I still had it.
Sold for a SAAB 99

Oil filter Fram PH966B is non drain back, and does not have pressure valve. Good luck finding one. $40. 4 available though NAPA USA.

Ford through the 1969 Cortina GT catalogue has offered either a D code engine fl13a - napa non-drain-back no relief 1034 or K code fl228 napa fl1084 which has the anti drain back and relief. I believe the K is the Twin Cam. None available, and do not even supersede.

Rohans comment from

“ Anti drain back valve in the Elan filter is not a needed feature as the filter does not drain itself but its presence does not cause an issue. A by pass valve in the filter is also not a needed feature and was not included in the original filter design used but its presence does not cause a problem and will only every will operate if the filter is badly fouled which it should never be if you change the oil regularly. if it does operate your oil is badly contaminated and by passing partially the filter at that stage means no additional problems as you have already enough problems due to the old oil by then :(

cheers
Rohan”

40+ years ago I replaced my original oil pump with a spin on oil filter type pump. Tthe Fram spin on filter for the Elan was a PH2870A. It worked fine for my worn out old motor but my local auto parts store was out.

My work car at the time had a Ford 302 V8 and used a Fram PH8A filter. I had several on the shelf. The auto parts store said the Fram filter for the Elan was a PH2870A but he didn't have one and it was a Sunday. I happened to look at the PH8A filters on the shelf and pulled one down. The center hole was the same size and thread as the PH2870A and so was the gasket diameter.

The filter can was much larger in diameter and a bit more length. What little I understood about oil filters at the time was the more filter area the better, the less pressure drop and I hoped a little better filtration since I lived in very dusty Denver metro area. So I filled one of the big Ford filters full of about 3/4 quart of Castrol 20W-50 and it easily cleared the block and pan.

Worked a treat.
Fram PH8A:
Filter type: Full-Flow Lube Spin-on
Thread measurement: 3/4-16
Outer diameter: 97 mm (Approx. 3.82")
Height: 130 mm (Approx. 5.12")

I had only one issue with the Fram due to a stone that hit the can a put a tiny crack in the edge of the can. Thankfully noticed the additional oil leaking more than the usual....

Once I learned a little more, I started using the K&N, NAPA or Wix equivalents.
K & N HP-3001
Wix 51515XP
NAPA 41515 Platinum
I now use the same for both my Crossle FF and my Lotus 23.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

Interesting about the filter for a 302. I converted to a spin-on pump a couple of years ago and set about finding the biggest filter I could get away with and a Motorcraft filter for a Ford V8 was one of the ones that was supposed to fit, according to some cross-reference I read somewhere. It didn't fit, fouling with the lip of the sump. Thanks goodness I had the presence of mind to try a dry-fit before filling it with oil!

I did figure out that a Purolator PL20252 would fit, having the same thread and seal as well. This is a familiar filter as its what I used on a VW Mk IV GTI turbo that I used to have. It's a decent size and seems to work a treat.
