@roland - I’m now in the market for a new fast road manifold and wonder which way you went in the end?

Stephen,
I haven't yet replaced my manifold but my conclusion was that the current SS Matty's (now Classic Team Lotus) manifold with the matching exhaust would be best. I have a 20+ year old Matty's manifold which doesn't fit well but the current manifold sold I think will fit fine. The Matty's manifold also seems to be sized to go to 160 bhp if I ever wanted to do an engine upgrade.
I did get feedback on the Kelvedon fabricated manifold that the fit was tricky but they haven't sold many, I would want to see more users of it before going that route.
I also spoke to SJS, I think this may be a Double S system but it is very competitively priced. I don't know anyone who has used this manifold from SJS.
Regards
Roland

Stephen,
Yes would be interested which way you decide to go.
I did also talk to JP Exhausts (Congleton) and they have done full custom systems for Elan's before. I am sure the end product would fit perfectly but they were indicating £2500 inc. VAT for a manifold and exhaust system.

Roland,
I have fitted a Ford MT75 gearbox and to my surprise the exhaust clashed with the bell hosing. The bell housing fits the block, all the holes line up but the bell housing is a different shape!
A chance conversation with a motorcyclist in the local pub directed me to a man in the same county who makes exhausts. I think that whatever you buy will probably need adjusting, finding someone who can bend tube close to home may be useful.
Hope this helps,
Richard Hawkins

Richard,
I tend to agree, I haven't found anything being sold that I have 100% confidence in. I am sure the JP Exhausts system would be excellent but the price is the issue. I actually have the original manifold which probably is not a bad fit but I don't have the y piece and I think the pipe sizes may be slightly restrictive. I could get the pipes eased on the manifold fitted to the car but I need someone locally near Aberdeen to do that.
I am going to live with what I have a bit longer.
