Piston broke( often spelled differently)

Hi all and thanks for all the suggestions and hints. The bores are perfectly clean and still have the cross hatch hone marks. The offending piston has no other damage on top or down the skirt, and apart from a minor distortion to the valve stem there is no other major damage so I have been very lucky indeed. I have sourced another exhaust valve in perfect condition and an original AE .040" o/s piston is on its way from Engine Parts UK, and gaskets from Rob Roy Historic Garage near Melbourne. The missing bits of piston have totally vanished, as I thought I might find some remnants in the exhaust pipe or mufflers but nothing exists. My only conclusion is that the piece came of in small enough bits to be carried away in the exhaust gasses. Hopefully I will have the Elan back on the road soon and drive it to the Barossa Valley in South Australia in October for the bi-annual Lotus get together.
Cheers, Ian
