Timing case replacement. Which one?

Yes, thanks Bill, I'd spotted the feed for the timing chain lubrication, in this case was almost blocked with gasket material.

I have now obtained the new backplate, front cover, pump and front cover assembly kit from Burton. I had to exchange the backplate as it was not flat, which they did by return of post.
It all now seems ok and looks to fit well.
With the accurately aligned flanges between the backplate and front cover I'm aiming to assemble with anaerobic flange sealant.

you probably know this already but use correct Loctite sealants (for oil and water) on the bolts which go through the timing case.

After meticulously building my engine I was plagued with oil and sealant leaks which I was convinced were coming from the sump and even a weep from the cylinder head.

After carefully diagnosis I finally tracked them down to these bolts. One of them was even casuing a coolant weep from the block to backplate interface near the head (don't ask me how). After carefully cleaning them all and using sealant I now have a leak free engine :D

When I built the engine up I knew about the sealant trick but dismissed it as I could not understand how oil could pass these bolts but it does. You live and learn

Be ever so careful with the cork gasket between the head and top of the timing case. I did everything by the book on that but it still extruded shortly after the build resulting in a further oil leak - I have sealed it by carefully cleaning the joint externally and applying a bead of Loctite sealant for oil which has been successful. I will do it properly next time I have to pull the head.
