Other cars which you might fancy (non Lotus)

a Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe
and even weirder:
a Suzuki Cappuccino
I would have put Suzuki Swift Gti on my list, but I owned one from new (1993) and only sold it 6 years ago, so been there done that although I miss the cheeky little thing at times. The frothy coffee Suzuki was almost an instant classic, I have nearly bought one on numerous occasions. If you park an Elan next to a Suzuki Cappuccino or a Smart Brabus Roadster, you realise that they are almost on a scale, so no wonders that you are drawn to them.
Suzuki do excellent small cars and very tough 4x4's, their medium saloon car offerings haven't been received that well and lack the cheekiness of the Swift and other models.
Kindest regards

This is not weird. Gordon Murray loves the Elan and he also loves the Smart Roadster.
I drove one, just the automatic gearbox is what spoils a bit an otherwise brilliant car.

As well as Lotus, I've always had a thing for Italians with a trident on the front. Therefore:
MASERATI GHIBLI (an early one on Borrani wires)
MASERATI KHAMSIN (the ultimate wedge?)
MASERATI BORA (the greatest allround mid-engined supercar of the 1970's)
and a slight succumbing to the prancing horse;
FERRARI DINO 246GT (anything that's ok for Tony Curtis in the Persuaders is ok for me)
FERRARI DINO 308GT4 (another great wedge, can't understand why they're so unloved)
and slightly more oddball but awesome;
ISO GRIFO (made a DB6 and E-Type look rather pathetic)
GORDON KEEBLE (95 out of 100 built still survive after 45+ years; surely a percentage survival record)
and lastly;
late 60's chrome bumper 427 CORVETTE (if only they'd ever built a right hooker, and if only Britain had no corners)

..the good thing about the Gordon Keeble is that is shares its windscreen with the +2
Well I never knew that.
What is certainly nice about them compared to other exotic 1960's GT cars; especially the Italians, is the fact you can buy a complete new engine for the same price as a Maserati or Ferrari gasket set. A pleasure similarly enjoyed by the Grifo.

Nothing............I've owned every car I ever wanted. Old Loti is the last stop and out of all the cars.......these are the most fun. The fun factor is huge. I drive the Plus 2 and I don't want too get out.
I had:
3 '70 Boss 302
10 Porsches
1 '66 Mustang K code
3 '70 Corvettes (ugh! I didn't learn the first two times)
1 '71 Honda 600 coupe
2 Sunbeam Tigers
All gone..............why? no fun factor.
O.K maybe a Fiat Multpla..........cute as a button, in a odd way.
And Sako, a big block 427 handles like big block of poooo. Trust me..............

Hmmm makes you think. My list in no particular order:
Citroen 2CV: did our big European overseas tour in one of these, 9 months and about 30000miles...never missed a beat and always received comments, some even complimentary:!: Citroen DS as a second choice.
Original Mini Cooper S: used to have an 850cc badged Mini with a ~1275cc Cooper S engine and used to embarrass the posers revving their engines at the lights when the "850 Mini" would just blow them away)
Fiat 500 called a "Bambina" here in New Zealand...used to be commonplace but hardly see them nowadays..probably all eaten by the metal worm that Fiats were notorious for being infested with. Wouldn't mind an Fiat X1/5 as a second option.
Lambo Muira: what more can you say, simply gorgeous.
E-type jag convertible: classic lines that look as stunning today as when it was launched.
Ford Edsel, saw one the other day, and man that front end styling certainly stands out!
Original Lotus Elite..oops how did that slip onto the list.
Others for a honorable mention: Porsche Speedster, Mercedes 300SL gull-wing, Bugatti Veyron, McLaren F1...
and a larger garage

- funny thing this "dream-car" exersize.....I do firmly believe that some cars ought to be in your dreams only, and not in your garage.... Have had the chance to drive a couple of my own dream-cars on occasions, and deeply regretted it... They went out of my dreams faster that lightning......
Tried R8 Gordini once, Jaguar E-type and -65 Mustang........woooosh, gone all three of them....
Having said that, maybe our Elans have spoiled us a tiny bit.....??

I agree Dag, one of my biggest automotive disappointments was when I drove a DB6.
