So true and in a way so sad. Without wishing to become too melancholy I miss it terribly (youth and those better times).

Apologies to Brian, this isn't getting to the bottom of gaskets and sealants :)

This is what the OEMs use for oil containment( sump pans etc). Loctite 5910 is t
Loctite59101.jpg and
hixotropic so will fill and seal across large gaps. To ensure best properties, cure at 40 deg C (use fan heater).

One of the best sealers I have found is from your local Honda dealer. Hondabond. Good for metal to metal jointing.

Just to prove that I don't ignore everything you say John, I've bought Dreibond (from a Porsche outlet) for my rebuild.

Yes, but if it's any consolation, I also have Loctite 518.

Oh the Loctite is also very good. Belt & Braces Man eh!

Some background on the BMW Dribond usage.
Some years ago the "Contact Man" for "the Dealership" complained to me about the array of Sealants they had to stock to conform with the Service requirements on various types of Engines & Transmissions.
This of course lead to confusion & miss-usage.
I was tasked to reduce this to a common denominator.
I had to convince the Heads of large & small Petrol Engines in Munich, Transmissions in Munich, Motorcycles & Motor Sport also in Munich & Diesel Engines in Steyr to choose just one Sealant.
At the time they were all using about 10 different ones so I listed them & sent it out as a "Round Robin" asking them to put a "Tick in a Box".
After many delays I got an agreement from them all to agree to the one the majority had chosen, that being Dribond 1209 Clear.

Cheers
John

This suggests I should use both on each joint - interesting, eh? And maybe finish off with Hylomar.

For our US friends Belt & Braces = Belt & Suspenders.

Pink Lacey ones maybe?
Maybe still not enough, mix some "Bostik" (Sp.?) in with the mix.
My Ol' Dad used to swear by it before he got a supply of the old Blue Hylomar off the back of a Lorry
A good old Sump full of Gunge that will turn out to be
