oil (grease) gun

Given that a good modern grease won't turn into wax and has the benefit of being self-cleaning in the joint as noted by other grease users, I believe the real reason some owners persist in using oil is to preserve the concours "seeping oil" image of the British sportscar.
In this vein, those insisting upon oil should also feel compelled to do so using a standard grease gun. Clearly, the drips are the major part of the experience for you.
Given that new trunnions for these machines are both available and cheap, I don't see any value in putting up with trying to keep oil in them in the highly unlikely event that it actually makes them last longer. The sole benefit I see is that this practice forces you to look at the front suspension on a regular basis.
