Yep, I have proposed this with a unit called Deltamax. See

My car is under resto so can't comment on how it works, but I understand it is good.

By the way rotor arm failed at last race - went open circuit. Have since heard of lots of problems with Lucas based caps and arms - anyone got any ideas of bullet proof replacement bits?
Normally the rotors will short out ot earth. Never heard of one opening up the circuit unless the metal conductor flew off of it. Highest dielectric rotor I've found is the Lucas DRB101C. It appears to be a soft glass-filled black plastic which is not bakelite maybe it's abs or nylon. There's no retaining spring to firmly hold it onto the shaft so highly recommend super gluing the rotor to insecure it stays in place. They're cheap so I buy them by the dozen.
