Gidday all, Something went wrong here as I also submitted words with the new topic which I think is fairly normal but the words failed to appear, wonder why !!
I own a 1970 black badge +2s Elan, chassis #0053M. Was formally owned by a girl who supported the local "Lotus Specialist" for a long fund draining time. We purchased the car some three years ago and immediately lifted the body of the chassis (original) and carried out repairs as required such as fabricating a rear lower chassis section where the "specialists" had been lifting it as well as stiffing the chassis and variuos items as well as adding CV joint in place of the Hillman Imp donuts. Dropped the body back on and fitted the TC engine from our Lotus Cortina (at that time around 140 HP) and away we went, great car. Ran it a couple of times in Circuits Sprints but decided it was too good a car to turn into a racer. Anyway the Prince of darkness interuped proceeds with an under bonnet BBQ and the engine was re possed for the LC and the +2 relegated to the trailer.
That was two years ago, earlier this year I commenced rebuilding the Elan engine when I started to toy with the idea of an engine swap, various Nippon units came to mind but I came back to the Zetec idea as I was building a tweaked unit to run in the LC and another car we race, why not for the +2 ? Why not indeed !!
1 : It fits well with the same bolt pattern on the bell housing Ford has used since 1959.
2 : It's cost effective with a 2Ltr putting out 160HP with minimal mods. (check Dunnell engineering and Vulcan in the UK) .
3 : Items such as a water rail, inlet manifold, modified cams, modified heads and ECU set ups are all available off the shelf or if you are keen like I am you make your own items.
4 : They are much cheaper than a TC, HP for dollar.
5 : If it dies thow it away.
6 : It fits very nicely (photos available ).
7 : Looks bloody good too.
What else can I say, if you are into making your own conversion items then give me a hoy and I can send some photos.
Leave it with you.
See ya, Les.

Each to their own and, being in the final stages of a Zetec conversion of my own, I have to say that I'm with Les on this one! If fact Les, I'd be very interested to see some pics of your conversion - I'm at [email protected] - and your impressions of how a finished one drives in regular use!
Cheers,
Simon
