Plug Oiled Or Fouled

i wonder if anyone could asist me in dtermining why i am fouling plugs. i am consistently fouling number two plug. it appears dark and a bit oily. i have done the light sandpaper cleaning a few times and it runs great for about 2 weeks.i have a 72 elan sprint coupe.i have checked compression and timmig and all appears normal any ideas?

What plugs are you running. Try NGK BP6ES if you are running colder plugs than these.
Have you checked the plugs before you experience problems to see if its fouling under normal driving. If you only look at it once you have problems you may see it fouling up due to a problem such as a faulty plug lead or plug casusing the misfiring that then causes the fouling

thanks everyone for the suggestions.
i have tried swaping leads and so on .
my next step is to replace plug leads which probably sholud be done as its time
also thanks for the suggestion on plugs

i am using autolite plugs currently so ill give the ngk a try.
these will be appropriate for a 72 elan sprint?

im running dual downdraft strombergs as this is a u.s. federalised model
ngk plugs still ok.?
