Oil pressure gauge take-off

PostPost by: ill_will » Thu Mar 28, 2024 8:48 pm

For years I'd assumed that the fitting on my engine where the oil pressure gauge pipe attaches was original, but after some reading here and consulting the parts manual it doesnt appear to be. It looks a bit home made, but frankly many original bits do too.

Measuring, it looks like the:

- thread into the block is 1/4"NPT (18TPI)
- male thread for pressure gauge pipe is 1/8" BSPT (28TPI)
- female thread for oil switch is ? It is tapered, measures 0.382 to 0.394" diameter, at 26TPI.

Any ideas?

Looks like a standard aftermarket T piece.
Is the electrical sender a high pressure (20psi?) switch?

Brian.

The female will be for pressure sensor. Will be 1/8" npt or BSP which are very close in sizing for 1/8".

Kind of surprised it's a mix of npt and BSP....

Thanks for the replies.

Brian, you're right, I think it is a pressure switch. It has 1,5 written on it so I guess 1.5 bar perhaps. At 26TPI it could be 1.0mm pitch perhaps.

I assume the 'standard' straight adapter which goes block to pressure gauge pipe must also be a mix of NPT and BSPT?
