cooling fan switch seal - Sprint

Hi
I was wonderng if there is a technique to fitting the cooling fan switch/seal to stop it popping out of the radiator which it did today?
e.g. should I use some silicone sealant?

Mine is held in with a wire loop around the switch connector boss and rad return pipe. No sealant as far as I can tell. Pretty crude but it has been like it since I have owned the car. (Light weight too).

just done this myself on my sprint

if you use a fine lock wire it can look ok. No leaks or movement on mine

When the cars were newer nothing was used to hold in the otter switch. You popped in the grommet and then the switch, which presumably expanded the rubber and gripped the metal. Mine was like this for many years , no problem. Nowadays with older parts and/or substandard aftermarket parts I use a black cable tie over to the top hose.

Hello, I thought it might pop out too but it never has and I have seen people using cable straps. I used locking wire just in case.

The rubber ring into which the Otter switch seats is not especially tight, which is why some switches popped out.

Luckily there is a Volvo part that is a better and tighter fit, which is what I fitted to my Sprint. I did also fit a locking wire - belt and braces, so to speak!

Many thanks to all for all the suggestions.

I got a replacement Lotus seal today but when I fitted i it didn't inspire confidence so I've ordered the Volvo one and will add a couple of cable ties.
