Assembly Lubricant

PostPost by: Billelan » Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:18 pm

I’m just about to reassemble my Twincam Engine, new pistons, bearing shells etc. It’s likely to be stood a while before being fired up. What’s the current recommendation for lubricating parts during assembly. In the past I’ve just used standard engine oil such as Castrol GTX.
Are assembly lubricants such as Millers and Torco MPZ as sold by Burtons worth getting?
I will of course crank over with the plugs out to fully prime the system before firing up.

I would get a tube of the proper assembly lubricant, it will stay in place while the engine is stood up unlike engine oil which can drain away from the bearings etc. I use Graphogen myself if that’s any help?

Graphogen is recommended by Miles Wilkins and I've used it a couple of times, including with a delayed start-up.

Thanks for your advice guys. I’ve ordered a tube of Graphogen from PMN Parts.
