I agree and not really sure what their point was except that a number of good distributors set up with the same maximum advance produce the same maximum power which is what you would expect.
The typical issues with different distributors are things like the actual advance curve, and reliability, and operability at higher revs in a race engine which they did not explore.

Yes and I'm sure if you tested back to back a "sports coil" pumping out 50 billion volts versus a standard one there wouldn't have ben one jot of difference either. So many people get sucked in by marketing!
