Thanks for the more experienced eyes on it.
I could be wrong but I think that's only for UK spec Stromberg engines.
The Federal engines used the secondary throttle body as the cable abutment so didn't need an additional bracket on the cam cover ... do you have a hole below where the cross-over pipes attached ?

Those mounting points on the top face of the cam cover are for the air cleaner mounting brackets when the cam cover is used in Mk2 Lotus Cortina or Mk1 Twin Cam Escort (1968/9 - 1972). They aren't utilised for any purpose in a Lotus Elan as far as I'm aware.

UK spec Stromberg engined Elans and Plus 2's (without the federal emission control system) have the throttle cable abutment bracket mounted on the cam cover.

Sorry yes you must be right. I've checked my cover again (memory was dim) and the air cleaner bracket mountings for the Escort twin cam are taken off the cam cover mounting studs My cover (1970 Escort) has that mounting pad with tapped holes but they are not utilised.

My federal car has it too, screwed-onto that flat spot which has two holes. Given the car's history, I'm fairly certain that it's the original cover.

The MK2 Cortina uses the Cam Studs that go through the Cam Cover to attache Air Filter Box. Not the Tapped holes in the CM Cover. At least my 1968 Twin Cam was like that. Tapped Holes in Cam Cover not used for anything.
