Cam Cover

PostPost by: J J DIKKE » Sat Jul 18, 2020 8:55 am

Hello all,
Could anyone give me an opinion on this. I have fitted an alternative oil filler neck and cap to one of my cam covers. The cap is a sealed, screw on type. I understand that this may not look good for all the twin cam purists out there however, I like the look of it.

Would appreciate any opinion as to whether I should incorporate a breather tube / pipe / filter arrangement on the top of this cap, in order to help avoid any additional oil leaks that may wish to appear from elsewhere on the engine.

Whilst I am not too good with the computer I could try to include a photo of this for anyone who may be interested.

Thank you.

In they there should be no need for a breather in the oil cap. The standard cap had no breather and is designed to seal, however being spring mounted it can lift under excess crankcase pressure. Which is why it often leaks if there is excess crack pressure or the fitment is loose.

If your engine and breather are in good condition you'll probably be fine. Just keep an eye on the dip stick area as that's common place for oil to escape if there is a serious problem with crank case pressures.
