engine block ID help

I have a '65 Elan S2 with weber head engine with block# "P2552LBA"
I don't see what I thought should be an "L" before the "P" ? it's possible paint is covering it, but i'm not sure yet.
There are NO markings/stampings on the rear of the Weber head.
Can someone "in the know" shed some light on this motor? is it correct for the '65 Elan?

Not that I know very much but it seems a little low in the numbers for 65? I say this as I have a 65 lump kicking about that is in the 41's.
Is there a casting number just above the dynamo mount? Should start with a year letter (maybe 4 or 5) then a month letter a,b,,c etc then the day number?
Pretty sure somebody with vastly more knowledge than me will be along to help!

Ted, Engine No LP2552 was fitted to a Series 2 Elan with a Unit No in the 41## series. It was invoiced by the factory in November 1964, but would be titled 1965 by the time it arrived in North America, if that is where it was delivered to. It would appear that your 'L' was either not stamped or, more likely, stamped so lightly as to be in effect unreadable.

Engine Nos in the LP41## range were being fitted to cars invoiced around mid 1965 onwards.

Thanks all for your feedback. I just got confirmation from Andy Graham that this is a matching numbers car. The engine number, body number, and VIN all match factory records.
I'll have to sand/brush that engine to reveal the "L", but otherwise, i'm a happy camper!
