Hart breather

PostPost by: jono » Tue Mar 13, 2018 9:03 am

I would like to fit a 'Hart' breather to my cam cover.

I know they are available from one or two suppliers but I'm not going to pay ?55 for what is essentially a plumbing fitting!!

Could anyone direct me to a suitable off the shelf fitting which will do the job and, also, suggest the best location to place it on the front of the cam cover?

Cheers

They are not that difficult to fab up ones self.
Use steel tube instead of aluminum and braze it up.
You could always make up the metal bits and take them to a weld shop.

How much?!

Not even a way to hold it to the cam cover unlike my vintage (BRM/Coswoth?) one or an O ring.

When I took my breather off , just fitted a brass plug..

but before that just had a 22mm compression elbow screwed in ( just the elbow ) with a 1" pipe leading off to a catch tank.

I took exception to the cost of the 'Hart breather' as well and used a cheap alternative like John Clegg-my head had been fitted with a breather in this location in the past so it already had the hole:

It works well!

I've used a similar breather for many years. It fastens with epoxy, and makes a tidy, leak proof installation.

And no, I didn't pay that kind of money.

David/Mike,

Where did you obtain the fitting please?

I've just rebuilt my engine due to oil leaks and I want to do all I can this time to try and make it dry. I don't like the idea of the rubber oil drain tube being the only crank case vent

Cheers

An other variant. Somewhat bigger, and doesn't disturb me. Urs

Do I have this wrong? Surely a breather should be a larger bore?

Do you have the full length shaft in there?.spraying oil onto the breather ?
