Oil Pump Removal Spider Chassis 2+2

PostPost by: GHill » Sat Dec 26, 2015 2:39 pm

Good Morning All

I have read a few of the previous forum posts on this and I am attempting to remove mine and have got a bit stuck - I have removed the bolts from the right hand side engine mount (carb side) and lowered the engine, I am fouling on the brake lines but am only 1-2mm I believe from removing it. Whats the view shall I just get a pry bar to give me the couple of mm clearance - I want to check that this wont do any damage to the engine etc.

I thought I would add a few photo's also.

Try pulling the end cover off the pump - that should give you the needed clearance.

Thanks Rohan

That worked a treat!

I did the reverse order to install the new one!

Quick question should I fill the engine with oil and hand crank a few times (I already primed the new pump with oil) and also if I do should I expect to have oil come from the oil sender pipe to the oil pressure gauge?

Thanks
Gareth

Yes I would pull out the plugs and crank it over until I got a little oil coming out the oil pressure tapping to verify the new pump is all working ok before starting the engine.

Thanks Rohan

Im pleased to say that the new pump is working perfectly. I also confirmed that the old pump was a high volume pump and now when I start the car it gets to between 45-50 at idle then when its warmed up it sits at about 30-35.

Thanks for your help Rohan. Believe it or not that was the first time I have completed "mechanical" work on the car, Ive done some electrics (replaced the dash) and a few other little bits like changing the alternator bracket but this is the first major component thats been replaced.

This gives me the confidence to take on other jobs so thanks again for the advice. When I ran the car for the first time it was really really lumpy, once Id given it a drive for 10-20 minutes it settled down much better and is back to its purring self.

Of course when you fix one thing you often create another and in my case its that I now have an intermittent fault on my dash where the fuel, battery, temp, signals and tacho are all not working, but the windows, lights, hazards are all working. Any idea?

Regards
Gareth
