Hi all
I am interested in the success of either of the methods with a standard copper gasket.
I am in the middle of sorting out my various oil leaks and would appreciate your views especially, Rohan et al
Thanks in anticipation

I used the standard copper gasket with Wellseal and it leaked (twice)
Went to the Ajusa fibre type gasket, dry, and works a treat.
Doesn't really answer your question I guess but I suppose what I'm saying is personally I would not use the copper type gasket again though most do and have no problem. I'm no expert BTW just conveying my own experience.
I think Lord Wilkins advises Wellseal on the copper head gasket does he not?

Wilkins says use Wellseal or if not available fit the gasket without - dont use any other sealant. So why use Wellseal if its OK to fit without ? I have not used the original style copper / steel gasket for many years but i always fitted them with no coating without issue (and Wellseal is not easily available in Australia anyway).
These days i use composite fibre gaskets which is 1980 - 90's technology compared to the 60 - 70 technology of the copper - steel gasket. The one I use are made by a small local specialist and have a "silver" paint sealant on both sides and the maker says no other sealant needed.
The even more recent technology modern Multi Layer Steel gaskets (MLS) such as from Cometic appear to be to stiff and have problems sealing on the relatively soft and flexible twin cam head
cheers

Hi JH
I had a problem with water leaking at the far corner of No.4 cylinder (looking at block from carbs).
Had head skimmed, new head gasket etc and still leaking.
Used Wellseal on both sides of a new head gasket and hey presto, "job's a good un".
Also if you have a close look at the aluminium head you can also see that porosity is normally a problem.
Wellseal solves this porosity problem.
Cheers Rich
