Jackshaft locating dowel

PostPost by: JHE007 » Fri Aug 21, 2015 7:27 pm

Hi,

I've bought a replacement jackshaft and the locating dowel is not long enough to pass through both the spacer and the jackshaft sprocket. Is it necessary that the jackshaft sprocket has to locate on the dowel, or are the two bolts sufficient?

thanks in advance

The dowel is a crucial part of the jackshaft and should be used. Although not as important as making sure camshafts have a dowel fitted (due to load differences when considering valve spring pressures) there is still a fair amount of load imparted on the sprocket due to the driving of the oil pump. For the price of a dowel it is much better to have one fitted to keep peace of mind.

Hi,
Guess its a longer dowel, don't forget your ignition timing is related to this cam wheel position.
FWIW.
