+2 - removing oil pump insitu?

PostPost by: jono » Mon Aug 17, 2015 10:00 am

I have the same (irritating!) leaky end plate issue as covered in another thread. Pump has done 5k miles.

Is it possible to remove and retrieve the pump with the engine insitu - I have a Spyder chassis (if that makes any difference)?

Cheers

Yes can do in situ and easier with Spyder chassis. If RH drive car you may need to pull the disconnect the steering uni joint and pull up the column for clearance

Hi, I have a +2 with Spyder chassis and was able to change oil pump without touching the steering rack. But I did have the Webers off at the time.

You can replace the o-ring with out even pulling the pump. Did it the other weekend, 10/15 minute job. Just take the three bolts out, change the o-ring and put the cover back on.

Do not fit a 1/8" thickness o-ring needs to be thicker.

The pump can also be removed in situ, on the standard chassis you'll need to disconnect one engine mount and raise/lower the engine to get it out. Might not need to do that on a spyder.
