Leaky oil pump

Hello,
Another job I have to do at the moment is to fix a slight leak from the oil pump end plate. The pump is a new one, (well, fitted two years ago), and I had the end cover off to check the 'O' ring and it looks fine and I've tightened the cover as much as I dare so the only thing I can guess as to what is causing the leak is either the groove is too deep or the O ring is too thin but, as far as I can recall, it wasn't leaking after I fitted it so I've no idea why it is now...
Anyway, I was wondering if a smear of Wellseal on the O ring would be a good idea?
Cheers
Robbie

Ah I see - thanks Rohan.
It seems Paul Matty don't sell the O ring, anyone know where I can get one or tell me the exact dimensions so I can find one from an O ring shop?
Cheers

Robbie,
Look for a hydraulic company near you. Most hydraulic companies keep a good stock of O rings, and can probably supply you with the size you need.

Some kits have metric and imperial size in the same kit.
Or just try to buy the size you want individually and a tube of glue but you will be missing the gauge and the jig.

For future reference if anyone else find this thread. The o ring is 2" outer diameter, 1 3/4" inner diameter.
Mine measured as 17/128" thick but that was used, so suspect it would be 9/64" or 5/32" new.
Common thickness for this size is 1/8" so if you change the o ring out with common sized o ring when checking the pump over as I did you can end up with a leak.

if the O/d is 2" and I/d 1 3/4 the cross section must be 1/8" or 3.2 mm

I agree that's what the maths says... but the maths isn't very good at fixing oil leaks
No doubts my measuring of a flexible o-ring with a standard metal ruler is subject to a margin of error. Key point is if you put a 1/8" cross section o ring your likely to get an oil leak. So you need to to buy one of larger cross section and approx 2" outer, 1 3/4" inner. These number should be close if enough to locate a suitable o ring with out having to strip the pump down.

when i had this problem i took the oil pump with me to a motor factors and got them to try different sizes direct.
Easier to measure groove in body
