Oil Gauge Line

PostPost by: ftsoft » Mon Apr 14, 2014 11:44 am

On starting my 66 S2 this March after a really nasty winter, I discovered that a mouse had chewed through the oil gauge line. Aside from the mess, I had to replace the line. I got a proper size oil/gas line from Napa and re-installed the line which promptly blew off of the engine coupler end. Not being able to find any sort of clamp of that size (<3/16) I used zip ties to secure to the nipple after slightly flaring it. I drove the car and it was fine for a few minutes and then the line blew off of the gauge end. I'm wondering if this line, which is quite flexible is just the wrong stuff and if there is a proper alternative?

Minimee in UK sell these, which should be adaptable

Otherwise I'm sure Burton's would have something in their cattle dog.

Occasionally cortina oil lines come up on eBay, these will fit. Very useful for numpty cortina owners who forget to disconnect this when pulling the motor (he says, blushing)

As a Mini owner as well I came across this and bought one for the +2 along with the elbow for the back of the gauge, all works a treat and good quality as with everything from Minispares:

Thanks for the replies. R&D has a correct solution. A little expensive but similar to the setup in the posted link.
