Twin cam Block height same as 1100&1300cc Xflow & BDH/J ,

PostPost by: holywood3645 » Thu Mar 13, 2014 4:25 am

I have 2 blocks one is an 'L' and the other is from a 'BD' (BDJ/BDH) with 81mm bores with steel main caps new 81 mm liners installed. etc.
I just measured the BD block and compareed to the L block. They are both the same height. 20cm or 7 7/8" (I always though the small cc kent blocks 1100/1300cc were shorter)
My head is now working overtime now. I'm thinking of building a BD (somthing) using the BD block 1600cc crank, steel twincam rods or 1600 height rods (I dont have rods yet). Im wondering if anyone has played with a BD with this setup. I know some of you have speadsheets to caculate the cc. Open to ideas
I have a nice ported BD head, twin 40's cam carrier etc, It would be a cheap build for me.

Thoughts???

Don't know the height of the BD blocks but yes the small 1100 / 1300 blocks were shorter than the 1500 block

I was hopeing you would jump in. I always thought so as well. I went look for info and could not verify.

These 2 blocks are same height. I will look for numbers on the one with 81mm bore and steel caps. I thought it was a BDH/J block

Hello James,

You might contact Ken Anderson. He could tell you all you need to know. He used to work for Cosworth.

What I though was a BDJ/H block appear to be a Lotus block (explains the height) Same question applies however. Has anyone built a BD motor using a Twin cam block? I have a steel cosworth crank 1600cc and could use twin cam of 1600cc rod height,

When I was looking at options for my engine I came across this.

I can't remember were I found it, but it seems correct.
