Birds falling from the trees

PostPost by: archigator » Tue Feb 04, 2014 11:30 am

Knowing I was going to be replacing my clutch slave cylinder, I purchased a new high-lift jack so I'd get a few more inches of clearance than I normally get from my ramps. I jacked my car up from the front and added the appropriate jack stands to stabilize everything. I got greater access under there than ever before, replaced the slave cylinder, but decided to send away for the parts to construct a remote bleeder. Long story short, the car was up on the jackstands at a rather advanced angle for over a week.

Once everything was completed, I fired her up and wow! White smoke billowing from the exhaust like never before. I mean it looked like a house on fire! If there were any birds in the nearby trees, they would have been asphixiated. Immediately refering to this board for an answer, I found several postings linking "parking uphill" to oil draining to the exhaust through the rear valve guide. I'm hoping that's my issue. Any idea how long this will take to burn off?

Gary:
With the nose lifted, the transmission oil will pool at the end of the tail shaft and may leak past a weak seal, then drip on the frame, then on the exhaust.... this does not explain smoke from the tail pipe but if you are getting smoke from under the car and a "burning oil" smell it's a place to start.
