ignition timing question

I have a Stromberg Big Valve engine with Sprint cams and a 43D distributor which the PO had recurved. It's hard to replicate in words what the distributor's advance curve looks like, but suffice it to say that the advance is slightly more aggressive than a std 41225 distributor (but not as aggressive as a 40953) up to 4000 RPM. At that point, there is no further advance.
So, with a 10 or 12 deg BTDC static timing, the maximum advance I can get is around 25 or 27 degrees, respectively - and no further advance beyond 4000 RPM.
I was under the impression that a Stromberg engine needs a max advance of around 30-33 degrees and one that continues on up to 6500 RPM. Is it reasonable to assume that recurving my distributor along the lines of a 40953 (Stromberg) would be appropriate? I use the upper RPM range a lot as much of my driving is on the freeway.
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
regards
Rick
