Mk 1 Oil Pick Up

PostPost by: AlfaLofa » Wed Nov 27, 2013 2:36 pm

Is the oil-pick-up-pipe used on a Mk1 block supposed to have the arrowed "spacer" in the attached photo?

This picture is from an Ebay listing which makes the point of stating that the listing comes "with the all important spacer".

I ask because when I removed the pick up there was no "spacer".

The (easy to make) lock washer shown in the manual was also missing.

Hi

There are two types of early pickup pipe. The top hat spacer sits inside the pipe and gives the pickup pipe and filter assembly on this type more support, its therefore less likely to fracture at the very end where its flared under the retaining nut.

The two types are not interchangeable with the spacer i.e. you cannot remove the spacer on the type that needs it and you cannot add the spacer to the type that does not. However the block are the same and either type pick up assembly can be fitted to any block that takes the screwed in pickup.
