Slow Turn Over

PostPost by: sacramento7788 » Fri Oct 11, 2013 7:29 am

Hi

Bit of a starting problem.

My battery is new and fully charged but when I turn the ignition the engine turns over very slowly and I can't get it started.

It turns over quickly on jump leads and if it has recently been driven, say earlier in the same day.

Any ideas what I should be checking?

Any help would be appreciated.

Best

Hi John
Where did you connect the jumper leads - If you connected at battery terminals and it cranked ok then check battery and battery connections.

If connected at starter solenoid and an earth on the engine then check the earth connections for engine and for battery at rear and if that does not fix then check battery and battery connections.

cheers

Hi John,

I would suggest looking at your earth connections, especially if it turned over ok on jump leads. You could try and test this by running a lead or cable from the earth post of your battery to your engine making sure you have a good connection at either end, if the car then turns over fine then definately check your earths.

The first to look at is the battery earth connection in the boot, this goes down to chassis bolt on the boot floor, it may look ok on the bolt you can see in the boot, but it also relies on a clean connection between the bolt and the chassis. Also have a look at the earth between the engine and the chassis, there should be a strap from the engine side of one of the engine mounts to the chassis.

As an aside noticed your location, drove through there for the first time last Tuesday on the way to the Benedon Hospital, remember thinking what lovely roads for driving the +2.

Thanks both. You know what I will be doing on Sunday. And will hopefully be flying past the hospital Chris.
