Timing Case Cover Query

PostPost by: AlfaLofa » Tue Sep 24, 2013 2:06 pm

Can any one please confirm or otherwise whether the groove in the water pump bearing housing in the timing cover shown in the attached photos is supposed to be there?

I'm not sure whether it is a machined groove or a gouge caused by a rotating retaining clip.

I realize that the retaining clip fits into the groove in the bearing - but is there also a groove in the cover?

Hi Steve
Perfectly normal, as you say it's where the circlip/spring fits. Some kits nowadays come without the clip.

As Mick says. St Wilkins doesn't bother to fit the clips these days and considering how much pressure is required to fit the unit it it's not surprising.
