Lotus Oil Pan same as Pinto?

Does anyone know off hand if the 1600 Pinto oil pan is the same as the pan on the Lotus Twin Cam? I have a couple of dry sump pinto pans and it seems to fit, but not sure if a wet sump pan is one and the same. If anyone has a spare Lotus pan, I would be interested. Thanks Allan

Almost certain pintos have a totally different crankcase, hence sump, but then I've never held them side by side

I know the Lotus uses a pan with the deep end at the front of the engine and I believe the Pinto sump may have the deep end at the rear. This is of course assuming you have a Kent 1600 sump and not one from the 2 liter SOHC Pinto motor which won't fit.

I thought the sumps had been laid to rest in earlier threads but here we go again.
Forget the Pinto with the SOHC engine, there is nothing that I know of that is compatible with the Lotus/Kent engine.
I am not going to bother with the 4 bolt sumps and all following is applicable to Kent 6 bolt engines only.
The early Xflows had a sump with the oil bowl at the front BUT not all are suitable for the TC engine, there was both a narrow version fitted to 11/1300 engines and a wider version fitted to 1600 engine (same as Lotus) but these are quite scarce.
The later Xflows had the oil bowl at the rear and this can be fitted to TC engines with appropriate oil pick up BUT will catch on the chassis cross brace in an Elan.
There is a ?doubled bowled? sump fitted to Automatic Escorts which gives more ground clearance (good for Sevens) but this is even more scarce then the Lotus sump and also catches the cross brace.
There are a variety of other Xflow sumps with various baffle's and even some without any baffle?s at all but the oil bowl is at the rear.
All of above applies to the RWD Xflows but there are some FWD Xflow sumps that have the oil bowl at the front (early 1300 Fiesta).....BUT the front timing case is different so the front sump bolts holes do not line up with the Lotus front timing case.
I have tried and used most of these sumps at one time or another, even tried cutting the rear bowl off and moving it to the front as well as modifying the FWD sump.

The first three years of Pintos in the US used the 1600 kent motor and I believe they had a front sump. They seem to be almost as scarce as Lotus pans though.
I thought Kevco Racing might make a pan for the early pinto motor, but they just support the later OHC motor. They would, however, be interested in making one or more of the Lotus designed pan if there is a demand for them. Contact Josh at Kevco ([email protected]). I don't have a connection with them. I had looked at their pans in the past for another project. Nice stuff.

There is an important question to answer here - do you mean a Pinto car fitted with a 1600 xflow which is an overhead valve engine, or a Pinto engine which is a single overhead cam engine similar looking to the Lima engine (although virtually no parts swap over between Pinto and Lima)?
