I am looking at a twincam engine with the number 701M6015EA mean that it is the correct block for an Elan engine?

A 701M casting is a late version 1500 ford block which is the correct general type of block but the 1500 block came in a range of versions with minor detail casting and machining diferences with most of the versions used by Lotsu at some stage during the Elans production, They are all totally interchangeale however . Whether it is the absolutely correct block number that would have come orginally with a particualr Elan car depends on what year Lotus Elan you have and for some periods does it have an L cast into the engine mount boss. Maybe all 701 blocks had the L whether they were supplied to lotus or used in the Ford spare parts program and it was only early blocks that did not have the L except for those supplied to Lotus - you can never be certain with this sort of stuff and Lotus.

cheers
