Conrod Oil Squirt Holes

I have foolishly bought a derelict Elan, work is progressing, I suspect the collection of bits that are supposed to be the engine have never actually been together but seem to be in reasonable condition. Todays problem are the con rods, they have no squirt holes in them to lubricate the cylinder walls,little ends etc, Is this OK ? Are the cylinders just lubricated by splash? Should I drill some holes. ? The rods are marked:

Are they 125E rods? I have never seen them without the hole.
I dont know if the early skinny rods have the holes but if they are the early rods it would be wise the get the later 125 type.
Edit; just noticed you mentioned a name/number on the rod....maybe others know it but I have never seen that marking.

Martin made steel crank shafts, rods, 3 valve cylinder head conversions on the ford block with vernier gear driven cam and front cover mounted dry sump, he also made complete 3 litre i believe F1 engines in 60's.
My Elfin 300 raced with 1860 Martin engine in Asia, ive the engine which has just been stripped down.

His rods were by todays and Cosworth std heavy.

I think you are correct V, these are very well made substantial i.e heavy, rods, still no advice on whether I should use them as they are however .Help!

Racing connecting rods (machined billet steel) typically don't have that squirter hole. Our Carillo and Sainz con rods sure don't and neither did the Cosworth rods and adding a hole would probably weaken the rod at that stress riser . Higher pressure oil pumps and high RPM means plenty of oil being flung around. I would guess that having an oil jet is probably a good thing on a low RPM engine being lugged around but not much of a problem in a Twin Cam being used as it should.

In Jake Lamont's book on building FF engines he closes up the hole since there is already plenty of oil slinging around. And these engines are dry sumped with scrapers and windage trays and they are trying to pull a bit of vacuum. They don't seem to have any problems.
And as JAE Jeff says no aftermarket rods have the holes.
