Yes, a little chain that linked my oil stick to the alternator. Should you have to check oil level you have to remove the chain first.
Well....not that i could ever loose the oil stick.

Cedric, I don't think that was fitted by the factory. A previous owner must have added it.

Not original.

You should not have to worry about the oil dipstick ejecting itself - under normal conditions. There is no other involucre for the dipstick orifice.

Well, I learnt a new word today "In general, an involucre is a covering"

Just a thought.......was it a chain or a spring ? Some folks use a spring to stop the dip stick rattling.

The Dip stick is composed of a loop of half-round steel rod. If there are any issues with it rattling or coming loose, it can by adjusted by pushing a screwdriver between the two halves outside the range of the tube and then pressing the lower halves back together with a vice.

It will then have a springy action with its natural diameter slightly wider than the tube and it will grip the inside of the tube.

To avoid any oil spitting from the top of the tube, you can slide a rubber sleeve from an old ignition lead (or spark coil lead) onto the dip stick and it will neatly cover the open end of the tube.
