Cam shafts

PostPost by: David tye » Sat Feb 02, 2013 7:43 am

I have 3 sets of cams. 2 of these are big valve cams, federal, I think.
So what is the difference in profile for an A, B, C, D, cam.
1 of these may have been modified from federal to hot webber.
Again, how do I identify?
The usual great help from the group would be great.
Kind regards to everyone,
David

Hi David

A cam does not exsit in the wild, it may have been the prototype cam (which had no narrow rear 5th bearing) or the blank before grinding.
B cam was standard 105 hp engine specification cam no grooves on boss, 0.350 lift above base circle
C Can was SE 118 hp engine cam 1 groove on boss, 0.350 lift above base circle, longer duration than standard cam
D Cam was Sprint Big Valve 126 hp engine cam 2 grooves on boss, .036 lift above base circle.

For a modified cam measure base circle and lift and duration to figure out what you have. Many modified cams will have numbers stamped on the front face by the company that ground it.

cheers
