I don't think the thermostat elbow was painted but I don't know as I have not owned an "all original Elan" if there is such a thing. To be honest, it does not matter to me as these cars were meant to be driven and worked on. I like doing both.

Hi Gary,
Thank you for your message. Yes, It's not big issue.
I'm doing resarch work of Lotus TC engine.
In what kind of procedure was the engine assembled and painted?
When some photographs are compared, it turns out that it is various.
Every day is discovery! and I think that I would like to record it.
I appreciate the information from you.
Thank you,
Hiro

A few years ago I had a Europa Special, it had never been messed about with, had a low mileage and stood for a long time before I acquired it, I believe it was original.
The head was painted grey including the thermostat elbow and also the sump although some say the sump should be black.
I realise it is not an Elan but to me it points to the TC?s being all painted grey .......but as we know nothing with Lotus is written in stone!

Yep, painted same colour as the block.
Here are a couple of Lotus brochure pictures from that time confirming it. There's also a shot of my first Sprint engine bay, photo taken in 1976 on a 1971 car which had not been restored at that time.
