I had a similar problem with my Mallory Optical distributor. Motor wouldn't go over 5000. It felt like a rev limiter was controlling the ignition. It has a rotating wheel with vertical slots to trigger the optical signal. I learned that the width of the slots controls the ignition signal time span. Widening the slot increased the signal time and raised the revs over 5000.
Perhaps the Luminition chopper is defective or incorrect for the TC?

You don't think it could be any of the other (cheaper) solutions that several experienced posters have suggested?
Cheers,
