Core plugs

PostPost by: davidj » Mon May 21, 2012 11:46 am

Hi,

Has anyone ever managed to replace the rear LH core plug in situ without removing the exhaust? I don't think there is room to get access to be able to tap in the plug, but I really do not wish to remove the manifold!

Cheers,

David

Yes. But it is a real (and I do mean a real) pig of a job. Very little room to work. You will need a lot of luck to get them out and back in sucessfully.

Best of luck with it. Be very careful not to damage the engine block.

I have managed to get it out. I am just considering if would it be more economically on my time if I bite the bullet and pull off the exhaust to replace it.

I don't want to be a prophet of doom but there are more plugs, 2 on the exh side and one at the rear (and some in the head depending on which head you have)
If one of the side ones has corroded then the others must be suspect as well, unfortunately the one at the rear is an engine out job as it is impossible to see with the engine in
